Chapter 1
“Can-Can, the tribulation isn’t scary, and the mortal world isn’t frightening either.”
The newly appointed Immortal of Tribulations, Yuanling, bent down, earnestly persuading the little ball of fluff in front of him.
Can-Can scrunched up her small face, her voice crisp and serious:
“You’re lying.”
After thinking for a moment, she tilted her tiny head up, pointed her little finger at Yuanling, and solemnly corrected herself:
“You’re lying to a dragon.”
“Daddy said, for a dragon, the hardest thing in the world is passing the tribulation.”
Saying this, she repeated in her soft, milky voice the rhyme her father had taught her:
“Dragons don’t like suffering, dragons hate exhaustion, and only fools would fight to take the tribulation throne.”
Yuanling: …??
Is that really what the Dragon Emperor teaches his kid?!
Weren’t they supposed to be a revered ancient clan admired by all? Couldn’t they have taught her something… a little more positive?!
This was the first major task Yuanling had handled since his promotion — in mortal terms, he was basically a newbie civil servant fresh into the system. He absolutely could not let anything go wrong now.
Suppressing his inner complaints about the Dragon Emperor, Yuanling respectfully clasped his hands and said:
“The little princess was born under a sky where seventy-two phoenixes flew and forty-eight rainbows appeared.
You are the destined future Sovereign. How could a humble immortal like me dare to deceive you?”
After speaking, he silently chanted in his heart:
Above our heads, the gods are watching — lying to this kid is the only way forward.
Fortunately, little kids were easy to coax… and easy to trick.
Can-Can blinked her clear, grape-like eyes, her voice soft and syrupy:
“You’re really not lying to me?”
Yuanling immediately replied:
“Of course not.”
“You see, the mortal world follows different rules. For humans, living even a hundred years is already considered a rare blessing. But you, little princess, at three hundred years old, would be one in a billion among them.”
“Humans have always placed great emphasis on respecting their elders. If you descend into the mortal world, everyone who sees you will respectfully call you…”
He paused, then bent down, gave a solemn bow with hands clasped, and said loudly:
“Ancestor.”
“How could a mortal world like that possibly be scary?”
